Finally Graham and I are ready to start our dance teaching and socials again. It's been a long time coming but finding the right place to do it has been the part that has held us back since dancing has been permitted again. We can't dance on tiles as it can be slippery and hard on the feet and also we have found the grouting gets in the way at times - we do our own thing every week at Costa Sal upstairs so that we don't get rusty.
We have just advertised in the Gazette and online to see if we have enough interest to start doing this legally - we would like to grow it and make each week fun and social and a place where you can enjoy the music even if you don't dance - make friend ands have a place to go to relax in.
A lot of people think that they have two left feet - we can get that other left foot magically turned into a right foot - it's all about getting started and having a go! Everyone is in the same boat at the start, they don't want to feel stupid, look silly and if it doesn't come naturally then they give up. It is worth keeping going - you get there in the end and are soon whirling and twirling with the rest of them.
There is no 'Lady' or 'Man' now - it's 'Leader' or 'Follower' so as it's a partner dance it doesn't matter if it's two ladies or two men or one of each - one is a leader and one is a follower. Once you have decided it's not a good idea to swap round - trust me it's been tried!!!
We don't rush things, we are patient and both of us have a passion for dancing so we love to see others starting to love it as well.
We have just been on a Dance Holiday to Torquay - it was fabulous to dance in a beautiful ballroom and dress up every night and hopefully we will go to Blackpool again one of these days!!!
